What size should I buy?

Because the majority of our products come in different Fit Styles, as well as sizes, it may seem hard to know what's best for you. That's why we strongly recommend you know your measurements to help make your decision.

Check out our comprehensive guide (including video) on how to take your own measurements.

Once you have your measurements, use our size chart to determine your size. If you’re between sizes (which is totally normal!), you’ll probably be happy in either size - it depends on how you want the clothes to feel around your body.

Of course, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.  We truly believe that if clothes don’t fit you, it’s not your fault - it’s the clothing! Contact us at hello@alpineparrot.com.

What are Fit Styles?

Working with hundreds of real humans (not just algorithms) taught us that shape matters just as much as size when we're designing clothes that truly fit. That's why many of our products come in different Fit Styles as well as sizes.

Mountain and River Fit Styles

These are the two Fit Styles for our bottoms, made to take into account one's waist to hip ratio, preventing waist gape and providing all-day performance.

Coastal and Forest Fit Styles

These are our two top Fit Styles, which take into account one's chest for a flattering and comfortable fit, no matter your cup size.

Help! Your size chart is giving me a different size than I expected

Don't panic! Sizing in the apparel industry is broken. Unfortunately there is no standardized sizing between one apparel company to the next, and this can create a lot of confusion (sadness, anger... etc.) when buying clothes.

Our size chart is made to reflect the measurements and size of our clothes, specifically. Our goal is to provide you clothing that looks, feels, and performs great, regardless of the number.

We have a lot to say on this. Read more, here.

I entered a discount code, but it’s not working. What do I do?

Contact us at hello@alpineparrot.com and we’ll look into it.

The Ponderosa Pants 👖

What is the difference between Mountain & River Fit Styles?

The Ponderosa Pants come in the Mountain and River Fit Styles to accommodate for different body shapes as well as sizes.

The Mountain Fit is best for those with a differing waist to hip ratio.

The River Fit is best for those with a similar waist to hip ratio.

Check out our comprehensive guide (including video) on how to take your own measurements, and then refer to our size chart to determine your Fit Style and size.

What is the fabric like?

These pants are made for bodies in movement, so the fabric has some stretch for comfort during activities. This stretch allows the pants to shape to your curves, give you the freedom of movement, and still retain the structure of a hiking pant.

The fabric is breathable, quick drying, oh-so-very light, and is rated UPF 40 for sun protection! Our pants weigh around 1 lb – but are durable and will not pill. For the fabric fascinated, the textile industry calls ours a two-way stretch, lightweight, double-weave Nylon 66 with durable water-resistance (DWR) embedded into the fabric.

Hiking pants have to be able to deal with some pretty rough surfaces (sitting on rocks, climbing up rocks, tree branches, gravel, and so on), and that’s why we chose an extremely-durable Nylon 66 blend.  Also, no chub rub!

Will you be offering more inseam lengths?

We're proud to have hit our first sizing update to include sizes 26-30, but we know there are plenty of folks who need additional inseam lengths (short, long), too.

While this is on our list of future projects, it is not on our immediate timeline. We'd want to do them right, which will require reworking the whole body of the pants, including rise, and not just changing the length from the bottom of the legs. We appreciate your patience!

How do I care for my pants?

Wash in cold water with a mild detergent. We recommend you hang to dry, as it’s good for both your pants and the environment. If you’re in a rush, and we totally get it, you can tumble dry on low heat. We don’t recommend ironing your pants, but you can use the nylon setting (low heat) for a quick touch-up if needed.

The Bristlecone Flannel 👕

What is the difference between the Coastal & Forest Fit Styles?

The Bristlecone Flannel comes in the Coastal and Forest Fit Styles to accommodate for different body shapes as well as sizes.

The Coastal Fit is best for those with a C cup or smaller.

The Forest Fit is best for those with an F cup or larger.

If you're between a C and F cup, you may be happy in either, depending on how you'd prefer your shirt to fit.

Check out our comprehensive guide (including video) on how to take your own measurements, and then refer to our size chart to determine your Fit Style and size.

What is the fabric like?

The Bristlecone Flannel is made of a soft, warm, and buttery Polyester / Elastane 99%/1% blend. It is breathable enough to wear while adventuring outdoors yet cozy enough for curling up by the fire.

How do I care for my shirt?

Wash in cold water with a mild detergent. You should avoid using bleach or fabric softener. Tumble dry on low heat. You can iron using a cool or low heat setting for a quick touch-up, as needed or desired.

Other Frequently Asked Questions 🦜

Where are your production facilities?

Our Ponderosa Pants fabric is sourced from high quality, eco-conscious mills in North Carolina, and are colored with a bluesign™ approved dye to reduce our use of harmful chemicals.

The fabric for the Bristlecone Flannel is sourced from a bluesign™ approved and quality management certified mill in Taiwain.

Zippers, buttons, carabiner rings, etc. are then sent along with the fabric to our WRAP certified cut-and-sew factory in Honduras.

Alpine Parrot works closely with our factory to ensure the people making our clothes are working in ethical and sustainable conditions.

What is your commitment to the environment?

In order to meet our mission to give everyone access to the outdoors, there has to be an outdoor to access.

This is why Alpine Parrot is focused on environmental sustainability whenever possible — mindfulness in the fabrics we choose, careful consideration in the construction of each garment, and awareness of "how things used to be done" in order to break the dang rules that don't make sense anymore. Like dresses without pockets, we’re over it.

Our cutting and manufacturing process is designed to reduce the amount of waste while being uncompromising in the quality and fit of the clothing.

For example, the embedded belt in the Ponderosa Pants helps provide the best fit possible while cutting out the need for an extra component (a separate belt).

The Bristlecone Flannel uses the same buttons as the Ponderosa Pants, to reduce our material waste.

All of our shipping packaging is made from post-consumer paper, and can be sent to further use by every municipal recycling program.

We’re also working to offset all of the carbon created by our business processes, production, and shipping through the support of environmental causes in the US and around the world.

In the future, we plan to set up a program to repair any damaged items, and provide opportunities to buy, sell, and donate used items within our community.

Are you a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) business?

Yes. Raquel Vélez is the Founder and CEO of Alpine Parrot.

"As a plus size Latina with Indigenous roots, I launched Alpine Parrot because I found that the voices of people like me has been underrepresented in publications and discussions about nature. Larger bodies, brown bodies, black bodies: how often are they the focus of outdoor magazine articles or stock photos? I truly believe that everyone deserves access to the outdoors.

There are very few outdoor apparel companies that cater specifically to these groups. Beyond the lack of visual representation, the lack of size representation is yet another barrier for so many people to step onto a hiking trail. If folks can't buy clothes that allow them to comfortably engage with the planet, then why should they even bother venturing outside in the first place?" - Raquel
